Capital Dome in Austin, TXThe Government Affairs Department maintains a calendar of current events/issues, which is published in the TTA Member Update. TTA also provides Regulatory and Legislative updates to inform member and associate member companies on issues related to the Public Utility Commission of Texas and the Texas Legislature. Updates include Proposed Rules, Adopted Rules, Request for Comments, Notices of Workshops, proposed legislation, implementation of new statutes, and industry policy issues.

TTA provides industry representation on issues of importance to its member companies before the legislative and executive branches of Texas government, state and federal agencies and other governmental bodies. Major government entities with which the association maintains working relationships include the Texas Public Utility Commission , the Governor and the Lieutenant Governor’s offices, the Comptroller of Public Accounts , the Attorney General , the Commission on State Emergency Communications (9-1-1 ) , and the Texas Department of Transportation.

TTA also maintains direct day-to-day contact with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC), as well as, numerous other State regulatory agencies, including the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the Department of Public Safety (DPS), the Commission on State Emergency Communications (9-1-1), the Comptroller of Public Accounts, the Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund Board (TIF), the One-Call Board, the Relay Texas Advisory Committee and others.

TTA maintains close ties to the United States Telecom Association (USTA), the National Telephone Cooperative Association (NTCA) and the Organization for the Promotion and Advancement of Small Telecommunications Companies (OPASTCO) in monitoring issues on the federal level.

POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE

The Association encourages its members to actively participate in the electoral process and to support representatives who will best serve the interests of all Texans. A political action committee was created in 1988 to maximize the industry’s impact with statewide and legislative candidates.

The TTAPAC seeks to strengthen the relationship between leaders of the Texas telecommunications industry and our elected officials.
