What’s your best habit and one you wish you could change?

Martinez: My best habit? I love to read. The habit I wish I could change. I’m a worrier.

What helps you get creatively “unstuck”?

Martinez: I love to play chess to get unstuck but I’m not very good.

How do you like to relax?

Martinez: I enjoy reading, cooking, and running.

Is there a favorite book you’d recommend?

Martinez: One of my favorite books is Tuesdays with Morrie: An Old Man, a Young Man, and Life’s Greatest Lesson by Mitch Albom

How did you choose your career?

Martinez: I was given the opportunity to join the telecom industry many years ago and it’s been in my blood ever since. I love the industry and what we do.

Any favorite object in your office?

Martinez: My Microsoft Surface Pro is my favorite object.

Do you have quote or saying you try to live by?

Martinez: “This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9

Favorite social media accounts or websites?

Martinez: My favorite social media is Twitter.

What personally has gotten you through the COVID-19 pandemic so far?

Martinez: Faith and Family have gotten me through COVID-19 thus far.

Top 3 activities that bring you joy.

Martinez: These three activities bring me joy: reading, cooking, and running.

Which would you rather do?

Taylor Telecom History

Taylor Telephone Cooperative, Inc. was formed in October of 1951. Our purpose then, as it still is today, is to provide high quality telecommunication services to rural West-Central Texas. We provide service to approximately 14 exchanges, covering a 2,000 square mile area, including 14 cities and 9 counties.

We have successfully deployed fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) to over half of our customers. While it is an extensive and costly undertaking, our goal is to deploy FTTH to all our customers.

  • Offered one-party services since 1977.
  • Offered tone dialing since 1982.
  • Installed digital switches in 1982.
  • Installed fiber optic ring in 1994.
  • Offered caller ID features since 1995.
  • Offered toll-free Internet service since June 1997.
  • Our affiliate company became a member of a statewide fiber network – Texas Lone Star Network – in 1998 and provides part of an OC48 fiber backbone.
  • In 2006, we began to install FTTH to customers in Tuscola.

As of September 2018, Taylor Telephone Cooperative, Inc. rebranded to Taylor Telecom in order to better identify the services we offer our members as well as our growth in the telecommunications industry.
